It's Okay If Your Body Reacts During a Male Boudoir Session

What if I get an erection during my male boudoir session?

As a professional male boudoir photographer, I understand that during a photo session, an erection can occur. There are various reasons why this can happen: Some body positions can be triggering, eliciting a sexual response without warning, or getting undressed in front of someone can be exciting or nuanced. Whatever the reason may be, it's okay if an erection occurs during a male boudoir session. As a professional photographer, I go to great lengths to make sure every client feels comfortable in their skin, and that the setting is one-hundred-percent a professional environment. I do not pay close attention to erections during a shoot, knowing that they can occur without warning and that I would hate for clients to feel ashamed or worried, taking away from the overall purpose of the male boudoir session. 

What is the purpose of a male boudoir session? 

The purpose of a male boudoir session is to express a sensual, more sexy side in front of the camera. It is also a chance for men to feel comfortable, confident, and positive about their bodies. A lot of men feel ashamed of the way they look or aren't quite satisfied with their body's figure despite months and months of working on it. A male boudoir session is to help those individuals see themselves in a new light, and through a new lens, without all the self-hate talk and critiques. 

Is it okay if I have an erection or partial erection during my session? 

As stated previously, there is nothing weird or unusual about an erection. If you want your session to take on a more erotic tone, then during a pre-planning session, we talk about what kind of photos you're looking to get and how we can achieve that in a professional setting. As a professional male boudoir photographer, I always give my clients plenty of space, taking pictures from a distance and making sure that I am not invading personal bubbles or crossing any lines. In the case of taking any type of erotic photo, I make sure to provide a safe and professional setting throughout the whole process. 

What if I get an erection and don't want one during my session? 

Sometimes erections are hard to control, and that is okay. At any point during a male boudoir session, if clients feel uneasy, uncomfortable, or get an unexpected and unwanted erection, then the session is put on pause. I make sure my clients always know they can take a break at any point during their session to cool down, readjust, or have time to themselves if needs be. Boundaries are essential when it comes to photographing male boudoir, and I make sure that every client feels at ease and can speak up at any point if needs be. 

What are some causes for getting an erection during a male boudoir session? 

During a male boudoir session, I ask clients to pose in various forms and place their hands on different parts of their bodies. As a male boudoir photographer, I encourage my clients to feel themselves in a sensual, or sexy, manner, so long as they are comfortable doing so. This helps achieve photos that showcase a man accepting their body for what it is. It also helps create beautiful images with different composures, lighting, and poses. Sometimes the poses and hand placements can elicit a physical response from the genital area, causing a semi-erection or full erection. For example, I often photograph my client placing their hand near their neck and tracing it down the front side of their body. Most sessions include the client removing articles of clothing, one at a time, as they see fit and so long as they are comfortable doing so. All of these gestures and acts could result in "getting turned on," or in other words, getting an erection. This is natural, normal, and okay to experience during the session. Again, if at any point a client is uncomfortable and needs a break, the session is put on pause until the client is ready to try more photos. 

So, when you're thinking about booking your boudoir session, do not worry about potentially getting an erection, or feeling turned on at any point. That simply means your body is reacting to a very intimate setting and that is okay. As a professional male boudoir photographer, I will never let my clients feel ashamed of how their body looks or reacts during a session.
