Healing is a Journey

Healing is a journey and a timeline that looks different for each person. Life throws its curveballs at us, we get knocked down, and we're left with some pieces that we have to put back together. It's not always easy, but there is great power in taking the initiative to heal and move forward when we have experienced hardship and trauma. I've found that photographing male boudoir has become part of that healing journey for many of my clients.

Several clients, including myself, have experienced body shame and body dysmorphia due to past traumatic events or growing up in an environment where body positivity did not exist. The weight of body shame can be a heavy burden to carry, especially with social media often portraying influencers with the "ideal" body type. It's hard not to compare yourself in a world where everything is about the comparison. I understand what it's like to feel like you're not good enough because of the way you see your body. I understand looking in the mirror in disgust, thinking that if only you had six-pack abs, bigger biceps, or a smaller waist, you would be satisfied. However, that's not how healing works. Healing comes from the inside first, and then the outside. Once you learn to love and accept yourself first, then you'll start to accept the reality of your body and appreciate what you have.

That is where male boudoir comes into play. A male boudoir session is a chance to see the progress you're making on your journey to healing. Male boudoir is all about shutting out the pictures, comments, and voices of the outside world and turning inward. There is no room to compare yourself in a male boudoir session because it's always focused and centered on you. It's a chance for you to shine in front of the camera, to let go of the shame of not having the "perfect," or "ideal" body. It's a chance to let go of any guilt you're holding onto about eating healthier or going to the gym more, or being more proactive. You are good just the way you are, and that's what we capture in front of the camera during a male boudoir photo session.

The art of healing looks different for everyone, but I can say for certain that every client that has done a male boudoir session with me has walked away feeling more empowered, uplifted, and energized than when they first walked through the door. There is something magical and special about letting your guard down, appreciating your body in a comfortable setting, and seeing yourself in a new light.
